“Wish Kygrios took tennis this seriously from the beginning of his career” – Fans sound off after an in-form Nick Kyrgios beats World No.1 Daniil Medvedev at the Canadian Open

Nick Kyrgios managed to get the biggest win during his recent run of scintillating form as he ousted world No. 1 ranked Daniil Medvedev in a round of 32 clash at the Canadian Open.

The Australian tennis pro has been on a roll of late. He reached the final of the Wimbledon Championships before losing to the legendary Novak Djokovic. The 27-year-old played the doubles event at the Atlanta Open alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis and went the distance. The Citi Open followed and Kyrgios won both the singles and doubles events at the competition.

At the ongoing ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal, Kyrgios outclassed Sebastian Baez in the first round. The Aussie star had a stern test awaiting him in the round of 32 against 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev. However, Kyrgios had a game plan which he stuck to for the better part of the match – serve and volley. This helped him take advantage of Medvedev’s deep positioning on return.

Kyrgios lost a closely-fought first set but thumped the Russian in the next two to progress into the round of 16. This is the third time Kyrgios won a match against Medvedev while having lost just once. This is Kyrgios’ second career victory against a world No. 1.
