Controversies and Nick Kyrgios go hand in hand – he was recently seen spitting in the direction of his box.
Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas faced each other in the third round at Wimbledon in July. Both of them got involved in a war of words during the match and shots were fired by the Greek tennis star even after the match had ended. Kyrgios went on to play in the finals where he lost to Novak Djokovic.
During his second-round match at the ongoing US Open competition against Benjamin Bonzi, Kyrgios allegedly spat in the direction of his box. He also threw verbal abuses at the people in the box who didn’t seem to be at fault.
The 27-year-old won the match 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to progress into the third round. He will face J.J. Wolf on Friday at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in what will be their first-ever meeting.
Kyrgios has not reached beyond the third round at Flushing Meadows in four previous attempts. He has been in great form as of late and this could be the year that he clears the third-round huddle.
Fans’ reactions to Nick Kyrgios’ on-field behavior
Tennis fans have voiced their opinions and they feel that Nick Kyrgios should be reprimanded for his on-field antics as it’s not “good for the sport”.
