Top seed Iga Swiatek is set to face America’s Alison Riske in the second round of the Roland Garros
Iga Swiatek defeated Lesia Tsurenko 6-2, 6-0 in her first-round match in Paris. Swiatek defeated the Ukrainian in just 54 minutes – her fastest win of 2022. The 2020 Roland Garros champion extended her winning streak on the WTA tour to 29 matches. The Polish star’s winning streak is the longest by any player on the WTA Tour since 2013.
Since a run to the Australian Open semi-finals in January, Swiatek has completely dominated the women’s game and won her past five tournaments – Qatar Open, Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open, Stuttgart Open and the Rome Masters. The Polish star is in red hot form and the current World No.1. The top seed certainly looks like the player to beat in this tournament.
Alison Riske defeated Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska 6-3, 6-3 in her first round encounter. The World No.53 has not been in the greatest of touches this year. In her previous two tournaments – the Italian Open and the Madrid Open, she couldn’t progress beyond the first round. Riske’s best performance so far this year came at the Miami Open, where she reached the Round of 16 but eventually lost to Naomi Osaka.
