Slovakian star Anna Schmiedlova will take on No.6 seed Coco Gauff in the fourth round of the French Open
Schmiedlova has been a revelation so far at the French Open and must be high on confidence coming into this encounter. The World No.100 began her campaign with a major upset against No.11 seed Veronika Kudermetova before getting the better of Spain’s Aliona Bolsova.
In the third round, the Slovakian ace beat Kayla Day of the US to progress to the third round of the competition. Schmiedlova hasn’t dropped a single set so far and she will certainly be raring to go against the much higher-ranked Coco Gauff. However, it remains to be seen if she has what it takes to pull off another major upset.
Coco Gauff’s form coming into the match
Coco Gauff finished runners-up in the previous edition of the Roland Garros (2022) and will be looking to go a step better this time around. She is not in the best form coming into this tournament though.
The teenager is playing both singles and doubles on the WTA tour – doing really well in doubles but the hectic schedule seems to have affected her performances in singles. The teenager has suffered early exits from most of her recent tournaments and it remains to be seen if she can make the most of the good start in Paris.
Gauff’s best singles performance so far this year came at the Dubai Tennis Championships back in February. She reached the semi-finals before losing to top seed Iga Swiatek. However, her form has faded off since then and there haven’t been any noteworthy singles performances. The teenager is the No.6 seed in Paris and has got a really good start, bagging three convincing straight set wins. It will be interesting to see if Gauff can progress further and mount a serious challenge for the prestigious title.

Head to head and Predictions
Schmiedlova and Gauff have never played each other only once before on the WTA tour. The American emerged victorious in their sole encounter in Madrid, 2022 and thereby leads 1-0 on head to head. On paper, Gauff is the favourite both in terms of form and rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the Slovakian star and she is expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting an intense encounter with Coco Gauff eventually winning in three sets.
