Top seed Iga Swiatek is set to face Daria Kasatkina in the semi-finals of Roland Garros
Iga Swiatek defeated 11th seed Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-2 to set up a semi-final clash against Kasatkina. In the earlier round, the World No.1 came back from a set down to defeat Qinwen Zheng 6-7, 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the last eight in Paris. The World No.1 has been in sublime touch and has had a dominant run so far in the tournament, extending her streak of unbeaten matches to 33.
Swiatek defeated Lesia Tsurenko 6-2, 6-0 in her first round match in Paris. She defeated the Ukrainian in just 54 minutes – her fastest win of 2022. In the second round, Swiatek completely decimated America’s Alison Riske 6-0, 6-2 and followed it up with another comprehensive win in straight sets against Danka Kovinic in the third round.
Since a run to the Australian Open semi-finals in January, Swiatek has completely dominated the women’s game and won her past five tournaments – Qatar Open, Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open, Stuttgart Open and the Rome Masters. The Polish star is in red hot form and certainly looks like the player to beat in this tournament.
Daria Kasatkina’s form coming into the match
Daria Kasatkina earned a first trip to the semi-final of a Grand Slam after a dominating 6-4, 7-6 victory against Kudermetova in 2 hours and 8 minutes. The former World No.10 has been in ruthless form in Paris and is yet to drop a set. Her impressive win-loss ratio for the season stands at 23-10.
Kasatkina began her campaign at the Roland Garros with comfortable straight set victories against Rebecca Sramkova, Fernanda Gomez and Shelby Rogers in the first three rounds. The Russian then went on to beat 28th seed Camila Giorgi and 29th seed Veronika Kudermetova in the next rounds to set up a semi-final clash against Swiatek.
