Tiger Woods suffered some serious injuries after a car accident in Los Angeles
The sports world was left in shock as details of a horrific car accident involving Tiger Woods took place in Los Angeles.
Woods is considered as the greatest ever golfer ever and the American was involved in a single car accident in LA.
Details were sketchy regarding the accident early on. However, it was later confirmed that his car suffered a rollover in an LA suburb.
Woods also had to undergo lengthy surgery and the Chief Medical Officer and Interim CEO of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center explained the damage caused to the golfer after an update on Woods’ Twitter account:
“Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopaedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopaedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a level 1 trauma center.
“Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia.”
The release also added that a lot of screws and rods were used to stabilize his foot and ankle:
“Additional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle were stabilized with a combination of screws and pins.
“Trauma to the muscle and soft-tissue of the leg required surgical release of the covering of the muscles to relieve pressure due to swelling.”
This is a pretty big injury and many stars came out to wish Woods the best for his recovery. One of them was Rafael Nadal.
The Spanish great was concerned about the golfer and wished him all the best for the future:
“When I heard the news I was really concerned. Good to know you are doing OK. Get well soon my friend!!!!!”
While Nadal and Woods have played some pro-am matches together, the pair are two of the greatest ever in their respective fields.
Nadal has 20 Grand Slams, the same as Roger Federer, as both mean lead their field. Woods, for his part, is second on the list of most Majors with 15 to his name.
The release from the hospital added that Woods was awake and recovering but a comminuted open fracture is a serious injury.
This means that the bone is broken into more than a couple of pieces while ‘open’ suggests that the bone came out of the skin.
ESPN also shared more details of the accident and authorities confirmed that there was no evidence to suggest that Woods was under the influence of alcohol or drunk while driving.
The report adds that the car hit a median and then had multiple rollovers while hitting trees and then coming to a stop several feet from the road. A lot of equipment was used to pry Woods out of the car.
This was a scary accident, to say the least, and we wish Woods a quick recovery as he has had several setbacks while trying to get back to his best.
