Daria Kasatkina stormed through to her first Grand Slam semifinal after holding off Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 7-6 at Roland Garros
Daria Kasatkina has earned the first trip to the semi-final of a Grand Slam after a dominating victory against Kudermetova in 2 hours and 8 minutes. Kasatkina’s two previous Grand Slam quarterfinal showings resulted in losses to Sloane Stephens at 2018 Roland Garros and Angelique Kerber at 2018 Wimbledon.
The former World No.10 has been in ruthless form in Paris and is yet to drop a set. With this win, Kasatkina’s impressive win-loss ratio for the season now stands at 23-10.
Kasatkina defeated Kudermetova in their lone previous tour-level encounter on her way to the St. Petersburg title last season. Kasatkina had also prevailed in their three meetings on the junior circuit between 2011 and 2013. After this win, she further increased her head-to-head lead against her fellow Russian.
Fans react to Kasatkina’s dominating victory at Roland Garros
Tennis fans and followers are particularly impressed by Darks Kasatkina’s display against Veronika Kudermetova. They were quick to share their reactions on Twitter after the match.
“I love her game but that serve is just too much of a weakness. Kudermetova started too late to fully attack them, especially her 2nd serve. if Iga wins vs Pegula I think she will feast on that serve in the semis. Big troubl looming”, wrote a fan who is indeed impressed by Kasatkina’s overall display but concerned about her serving.
Another impressed fan tweeted, “Great job, Dasha. You deserved it!
“Really happy for Kasatkina. She’s been on tour for so long and has worked hard. Clearly so nervous at the end but got it done. #RolandGarros”, wrote another fan expressing her happiness.
“She is the only player who hasn’t lost a set this #RolandGarros”, tweeted a fan, pointing out Kasatkina’s sheer dominance so far in Paris.
