Sue Barker is a former French Open champion and a television presenter for BBC network

Sue Barker has announced that she will step down from the BBC’s Wimbledon coverage after the 2022 tournament following a 30-year career as a presenter. Speaking on her decision, Barker said – “What a wonderful time I’ve had working on some of the biggest sporting events around the world. I will miss it terribly but after 30 years I feel the time is right for me. I’ve worked with the best of the best.”

During her time as the BBC’s Wimbledon anchor, Barker has been at the forefront of many ground-breaking moments in tennis history, including the Williams sister’s era of dominance, Roger Federer’s record-breaking title win, and of course Andy Murray becoming the first British champion for 77 years.

Andy Murray is presently gearing up for the Wimbledon

Murray kicked off his grass-court season at the Surbiton Trophy, a Challenger event. After straight-set wins over Jurij Rodionov, Gijs Brouwer, and Brandon Nakashima, he lost to Denis Kudla in three sets in the semifinals. He has carried some much-needed positive momentum to Stuttgart, ahead of the Wimbledon.

In the first round at Stuttgart Open, Murray defeated Australia’s Christopher O’Connell 6-4, 6-3. He followed it up with an impressive 6-3, 7-6 victory against Alexander Bublik in the next round. Murray is scheduled to face top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals tomorrow. The 35-year-old didn’t play at the French Open but has been a regular part of the ATP tour this year.
