Top seed Carlos Alcaraz is set to face Filip Krajinovic in the Round of 16 of Hamburg Open 2022
Carlos Alcaraz’s form coming into the match
Carlos Alcaraz is coming into the match after a win against Germany’s Nicola Kuhn 3-6, 6-1, 7-6. It was a hard-fought win and Alcaraz did well to come back strong after losing the first set.
In his opening round match against Kuhn, Alcaraz rallied impressively after he dropped the opening set to World No. 259, whose aggressive tactics paid off in the early stages in northern Germany. The Spaniard combined consistency with some trademark moments of brilliance to level the match before holding his nerve in the deciding-set tie-break to improve his record on clay in 2022 to 21-2.
Carlos Alcaraz is back to clay court events after a disappointing outing at Wimbledon. Alcaraz reached the quarterfinals of the French Open, his previous tournament on clay. He has also won three titles on clay surfaces this year and is high on confidence in this tournament.
Filip Krajinovic’s form coming into the match
Similar to Alcaraz, Filip Krajinovic had a hard-fought win in the Round of 32. The Serbian defeated Argentina’s Sebastian Baez 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 to set up a clash against Alcaraz.
Krajinovic has won 18 out of 31 matches so far this season, with his most notable accomplishment being a runner-up finish at the Queen’s Club Championships. The Serb beat Jenson Brooksby, Sam Querrey, Ryan Peniston, and Marin Cilic to set up a title clash with Matteo Berrettini, where the Italian beat him 7-5, 6-4 to successfully defend his title.
Krajinovic is in decent touch and is pretty capable of posing a strong challenge against the superior seed, Alcaraz.
