The ESPN network holds the broadcasting rights of the Australian Open in the U.S.A and several other countries
A certain section of fans are not happy with the ESPN network’s coverage of the Australian Open. ESPN has received a lot of backlash from fans on social media for their poor scheduling and Novak Djokovic fans are particularly offended because they believe that the network is spreading false information to malign the Serbian’s image. The ESPN network has been the home of the Australian Open in the US and recently extended its contract by 10 years.
The latest point of controversy has been surrounding ESPN’s telecast which states that Novak Djokovic was banned last year for his ‘vaccination status’. However, the truth is that he was banned from the tournament because he was deported back from Australia and that comes with an automatic three-year ban. Moreover, he was deported back because of fears that he might incite an anti-vaccination sentiment among people. Djoker fans have really taken offense against the wrong portrayal of their hero by ESPN and the outrage continues to get bigger on social media.
Let us take a look at some of the reactions from fans on Twitter.
“I truly cannot stand ESPN. Their articles, commentary always have a negative slant even when they make positive comments. Thankfully we do not rely on them in Australia to view the AO. My heart goes out to you guys in America”, wrote a fan.
“today -when we turned on ESPN tape -Novak’s match was in the 3rd set–we get ESPN & the tennis channel-we could not find the beginning of his match-but Murray was on both channels all the time”, another fan complained about the scheduling.
“No wonder so many people still believe that he tried to cheat the system when journalists are allowed to broadcast incorrect information without check”, read a tweet.
“Shame on these media for continuously spreading incorrect information”, tweeted another fan.
Another fan wrote: “If you only watched espn in latin america… i bet you would lose it, they’re even WORSE.”
