Miami Heat lost against Bolton Celtics 3-4 in the Eastern Conference finals
Coco Gauff signed the camera after her fourth-round win with support for the Miami Heat ahead of their do-or-die Game 7. Gauff expressed her support for the Miami Heat after defeating Elise Mertens 6-4 6-0. The American is now set to face compatriot Sloane Stephens in the quarter-finals of the Roland Garros.
After her match, Gauff revealed that she has unfortunately missed out on watching the series due to the time difference in France. “I haven’t watched actually any games, because the games have been way too early or late, I don’t know what you want to even call it. I wake up in the morning and watch the score.I feel like, really, I do believe we are going to win, and I think whoever – I hope, not even going to put that possibility out there, but I think whoever wins this game is going to win the championship.”
She further added, “I love the Warriors. I really do. I think Steph Curry and that team is really one of the best teams we are ever going to see. I think we are better. I think it’s just about the culture we have.”
Unfortunately, the Miami Heat couldn’t live up to Gauff’s expectations and failed to qualify to further rounds. The Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat in game 7 at their home court, and have progressed to the NBA Finals.
Fans react to Coco Gauff’s support for Miami Heat
Coco Gauff’s gesture has received mixed reactions on Twitter primarily from Heat and Celtics fans.
A Heat fan wrote, “I knew I always loved her. I just love her more now. #HeatIn7”. Of course, the result didn’t go in their favour.
“I have never heard of her till today and best believe she is now my fav tennis player”, joked another Heat fan.
“Cute. How’s that work out?”, taunted a Celtics fan after his team emerged victorious.
Meanwhile, some fans had a completely different take on this. “Congrats on Coco but.. once again another perfectly good camera lens ruined. I get the celebration via written messages but please if you’re planning on doing that, the least you can do is bring your own white board. Giving camera bro props for keeping his cool, tweeted one such fan who doesn’t at all seem impressed with the tradition of players writing on cameras after the match.
