The 19-year-old Holger Rune shocked the tennis world when he defeated a rampaging Novak Djokovic in the finals of the Paris Masters.
The Danish youngster recently has had a great season so far. Rune won his first ATP tour-level title at the BMW Open earlier this year. However, his dream run began at the Sofia Open, when he made it to the finals. Rune finished runner-up in the tournament but that was just a sign of things to come.
He won the Stockholm Open after defeating top-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets in a one-sided final. Rune made his third consecutive final at the Basel Open but lost to Felix-Auger Aliassime. The Copenhagen-born youngster entered the Paris Masters and bagged his third title of the season with a sensational come-from-behind win against Novak Djokovic in the final.
With this win, Rune, who began the 2022 season as the No. 103 broke into the top 10 for the first time in his career. Rune is currently ranked No. 10 and is the first man from Denmark to accomplish the feat. He is the third-fastest to make it to the top 10 among the active players. Only Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz made it to the top 10 at a younger age.
This is the first time since 2007 that two teenagers made it to the top 10 in the same year. Earlier it was Carlos Alcaraz who broke into the top 10 in April and now it’s Rune who has made it into the coveted list. Back in 2007, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic made it to the top 10.
Let’s take a look at the current top 10 players in the ATP rankings.
