Alexander Zverev is one of the most talented players going around currently. He suffered an injury during his semi-final match against Rafael Nadal at the 2022 French Open.
Zverev twisted his right ankle during the second set of an intriguing match. The German tennis pro tore multiple ligaments and underwent surgery in June. It is still uncertain whether he will be fit in time for the US Open.
However, good news could pop up for the fans of Zverev as the world No. 2 can do one better and reach the pinnacle of the ATP men’s rankings by mid-August.
However, all these equations will change if Zverev competes in Canada.
Zverev has been criticized for not being able to go deep in Grand Slam tournaments. While performances in Grand Slam go a long way in establishing the legacy of a player, the achievements in other tournaments are also quite important.
He is the only active player apart from the Big 4 to have won five Masters 1000 titles. The 25-year-old has bagged 19 singles titles and 2 men’s doubles titles. Zverev also won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Zverev will be returning to Tokyo to participate in the Rakuten Open. He will be making his debut on the indoor-hard courts of Tokyo in 2022. Casper Ruud will also be seen in the tournament for the first time.
