As Wimbledon 2022 comes ever so close to its end, let us take a look at the prize money won by the players in Wheelchair category
For 2022, Wimbledon’s total prize pot is a whopping £40 million. Across all the categories, the total amount paid out to players is expected to be £40,350,000. This a 15% increase on last year’s total, as a slightly smaller sum of £35,016,000 was paid out in 2021.
Wheelchair singles winners get £51,000, while wheelchair doubles winners get £22,000 per pair. The same sums apply for the quad wheelchair players, too. The prize money is equal for both the men’s and women’s categories.
How much has the prize money for wheelchair category increased at Wimbledon over the years?
Prize money for wheelchair tennis champions at Wimbledon has been more than doubled since the singles event was introduced in 2016. Wimbledon is the first grand slam to pay the winners of the wheelchair singles more than those knocked out in the first round of the able-bodied event.
