Petra Kvitova stormed through to the final of Cincinnati Masters with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Madison Keys

Petra Kvitova won a three-set semifinal tussle against 2019 champion Madison Keys, booking a spot in the Western & Southern Open final for the first time. The occasion also marks the 40th WTA Tour singles final of Kvitova’s career. Kvitova, who is 29-10 in finals, will aim for a milestone 30th career singles title on Sunday. World No.28 Kvitova took 2 hours and 18 minutes to outlast American Keys, ranked 24th, in a battle between former Top 10 players and power hitters.

Speaking after the match, in the press conference, Kvitova made interesting which have certainly caught the attention of the fans. “This is very special, to be honest. I was going to the match today, and I was telling myself that I have never been in the final here. … I had many, many finals but never here. So finally it’s here. Actually, who knows how it will end tomorrow, but this is already a big step for me”, said Kvitova. She further added, “I have to say Madison played a really great match. It was a really, really tight one. I don’t really care about the ranking, I think in women’s tennis it doesn’t really mean anything.”

Fans react to Petra Kvitova’s controversial statements

Kvitova’s statement that rankings in women’s tennis “don’t really mean anything”, has received mixed reactions from fans.

“I don’t think I’ve heard a truer word spoken by a tennis player recently”, wrote a fan, backing Kvitova.

“Ugh she ain’t doing any favours promoting herself & the wta, care to learn atp’s going thru the same motions”, tweeted another fan.

“Don’t think she would say the same if she’d be #1 or top 5 for example”, wrote a fan who doesn’t seem to quite agree with her.

“Lol even the players are starting to realize none of them are any good I guess”, another fan wrote with the intention of trolling women’s tennis players.
