Canada’s Bianca Andreescu defeated no.11 seed Daria Kasatkina 7-6, 6-4 at the Toronto Masters

Bianca Andreescu won one of her typically dramatic matches against Daria Kasatkina in the opening round in Toronto. During this 2 hours and 30 minutes match against the Russian player, Bianca was struggling with her fitness. The Canadian sensation ended up winning the contest, but some fans thought that she was faking her illness and even the handshake at the net between the players was quite cold.

After the match, Andreescu took to social media to justify her stance and share her side of the story. The Canadian put up a story on Instagram, where she wrote – “Thanks you to everyone who came out to support tonight. It was electric!! I’ve been seeing some comments/ messages about what happened during my match and wanted to address it.I genuinely did not feel good. Dizzy and nauseous. Nothing to do with my back, thankfully but I definitely did not mean to cause any harm/distraction or whatever ppl have been calling it to my opponent or anyone in that matter.”

She further added, “Us athletes go through injuries, sickness etc, the last thing I want to do is put more of that energy in the air especially if it’s fake?!?!Doesn’t make sense. Yes, I wish I was able to not show it but I am human, too, at the end of the day. Try being in our position and see how y’all do.”
