Nick Kyrgios and partner Thanasi Kokkinakis will participate in the doubles category at the ATP finals
Nick Kyrgios‘ strange story on Instagram has drawn vivid reactions from fans on social media. After the groups of the ATP Finals, 2022 were announced, Kyrgios’ shared a picture of the draw on Instagram, tagged his partner Kokkinakis and wrote: “One thing is for sure, me and @the_kokk1 giving any of these squads buckets.” While one can’t be certain what Kyrgios exactly meant, some fans seem to have interpreted it as arrogance and reactions have poured in accordingly.
One can assume that Kyrgios probably meant that he and his partner would dominate the other pairs but a certain section of fans view his comments as a sign of disrespect to other players. There are divided opinions among fans on social media.
Kyrgios and his partner Kokkinakis are seeded eighth in the doubles category and have been put into the Green Group comprising no.1 seeds Koolhof/Skupski, Mektic/Pavic (4), and Dodig/Krajicek (5). The other group, Red comprises Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury, Marcelo Arevalo/Jean-Julien Rojer, Lloyd Glasspool/Harri Heliovaara, and Marcel Granollers/Horacio Zeballos.
The season-ending tournament will begin on November 13 in Turin, Italy.
