Stefanos Tsitsipas was spotted wearing the jersey of the Japanese national football team during his practice session in Melbourne. The Greek star is gearing up for the first Grand Slam of the Year, which is set to begin next week. Tsitsipas has done well in the past editions of the Australian Open. However, he has faltered at the semi-finals stage on three different occasions – 2019, 2021 and 2022. He will be looking to go all the way this year.
Tsitsipas took to Twitter to share pictures of himself sporting a Japanese jersey during his training session. The World No.4 seems to have a special liking for the Japanese culture and tradition. “The jersey represents the connection between sport and the ancient warrior spirit of Japan. A deep cultural heritage of honor, perseverance, and excellence. It also symbolises the connection between the modern and ancient, the beauty of tradition, and the power of the present”, he wrote on Twitter.
