Stefanos Tsitsipas is gearing up for the Australian Open, scheduled to begin on January 16 – he was seen wearing the Japanese football jersey at a practice session recently
Stefanos Tsitsipas was spotted wearing the jersey of the Japanese national football team during his practice session in Melbourne. The Greek star is gearing up for the first Grand Slam of the Year, which is set to begin next week. Tsitsipas has done well in the past editions of the Australian Open. However, he has faltered at the semi-finals stage on three different occasions – 2019, 2021 and 2022. He will be looking to go all the way this year.
Tsitsipas took to Twitter to share pictures of himself sporting a Japanese jersey during his training session. The World No.4 seems to have a special liking for the Japanese culture and tradition. “The jersey represents the connection between sport and the ancient warrior spirit of Japan. A deep cultural heritage of honor, perseverance, and excellence. It also symbolises the connection between the modern and ancient, the beauty of tradition, and the power of the present”, he wrote on Twitter.
Let us take a look at some of the reactions on Twitter.
“Let me add as a Japanese, the special crow on your chest believed to lead you to victory”, wrote a Japanese fan.
“I mean it’s just a football Jersey but ok”, joked another fan.
“Hi Stefanos, PLEASE don’t let djokovic win again. We are tired of always seeing his arrogance and his way of cheating (by taking breaks) to win!! PLEASE Stef wins this tournament”, read a tweet.
“Love this. Always respect the difference. And willing to learn about other cultures”, tweeted another fan.
Another fan wrote: “Stefanos Tsitsipas wearing the Japan away shirt on court in Melbourne. More tennis player x football shirt action please!”
