Roger Federer made his first social media appearance since his surgery update in February
Roger Federer finally broke his silence on the coronavirus outbreak and shared a message to his millions of fans and followers via Instagram.
It was the 20-time Grand Slam winners’ first social media appearance since informing them regarding his knee surgery in February.
Federer requests people to take the issue seriously and adhere to the rules necessary to fight the pandemic.
“I’m also staying home and I haven’t been shaking anybody’s hands for quite some time now,” Federer said.
“Obviously, I wash my hands very frequently as we’re supposed to. I believe helping each other is more important now than ever. Especially because we want to help the older generation. They’re the ones at highest risk and we need to help them by keeping a distance of two metres and not shake hands.”
“It’s really important to take these rules seriously. Very very seriously. Eventually, we could all be in quarantine and not be able to leave the house anymore so I really hope all of us take it very seriously,” he concluded.
Federer is currently at his home in the Swiss mountains with his family and is recovering from the right knee surgery he had undergone last month. Fedex was expected to make a return in June ahead of the grass-court season.
With the ATP and WTA suspending all tennis-related activities at least until June, it remains to be seen what the future has in store for Federer.
The Swiss hasn’t made any comments regarding the French Open’s decision to postpone the Grand Slam.
The French Open announced that the Major would be moved from May 24 to September 20. This was not received well as the dates clashed with a lot of other tournaments.
Federer would be affected by this move as the major is likely to overlap with the Laver Cup – an event which is co-owned by the Swiss star.
