“Idol and Idolator” – Fans excited as Iga Swiatek and Rafael Nadal confirm participation in the United Cup

The inaugural edition of the United Cup will take place in December 2022 in Australia

Iga Swiatek and Rafael Nadal have confirmed their participation in the inaugural edition of the United Cup in Australia. While Swiatek will lead Poland, Nadal will lead Spain. The United Cup is an international hard-court tennis tournament featuring mixed-gender teams from 18 countries and will begin next month, December 2022.

The tournament is set to be played in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney from 29 December 2022 to 8 January 2023. World No.1 Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz will lead No.2-seeded Poland while Nadal will team up with world No.13 Paula Badosa for Spain. Sixteen top-ranked countries have already confirmed their participation and the two remaining countries (one ATP and one combined entry) will be admitted to the competition later this month, based on rankings.

There are a host of other ATP and WTA stars set to participate in the tournament. The home team, Australia have a strong squad comprising Nick Kyrgios, Ajla Tomljanovic and Alex de Minaur. The U.S.A also look very strong on paper, having the likes of Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. Other notable entries include Norway’s world No.4 Casper Ruud, Germany’s Alexander Zverev and Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic and Stan Wawrinka.
