WTA Rankings update: Iga Swiatek drops out of the Top 5

Iga Swiatek drops four places to No.8 following Australian Open 2022

Iga Swiatek, who had collected 470 rankings points for winning the title at Adelaide in 2021, lost them all and thus saw her rankings drop from No.4 to No.8 in the latest rankings released by the WTA.

She is the youngest player in the top ten of the Women’s Tennis Association rankings and has a career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world. Swiatek was the champion at the 2020 French Open and is the first Polish player to win a Grand Slam singles title.

She looked good in the first 3 encounters of the Australian Open, winning them in straight sets against Harriet Dart, Rebecca Peterson and Daria Kasatkina.

Her round of 16 match against Sorana Cristea and quarter-finals against Kaia Kanepi both went down to 3 sets, she battled hard and won both those games making her way to the semi-finals.

Her Semi-Final match was against the American Danielle Collins, The polish pro didn’t have a good routine and she struggled throughout the game and lost the match in straight sets 4-6 1-6.

Iga Swiatek will be looking to make a strong comeback in the French Open as she will be entering the tournament as the defending champion and will be looking to climb back on top of the rankings at the end of it.

Badosa enters Top 5

Spain’s Paula Badosa made her Top-5 debut this week, at No.5.

After winning the title in Sydney in the second week of the 2022 season, Badosa went on to reach the fourth round at the Australian Open, making the jump from No.9 (the week of Jan. 10) to No.5 this week, the report said.
