Tennis icon Martina Navratilova had been battling breast and throat cancer for the past few months – but is she cancer free now?
Martina Navratilova is now cancer free – yes you read that right! The tennis legend had been battling throat and breast cancer for close to a year. She had earlier revealed that she had an enlarged lymph node in her neck and tests indicated that she is suffering from two forms of cancer.
This was the second instance that Navratilova had been diagnosed with cancer, having previously battled breast cancer 13 years ago. The champion athlete has now won against cancer for the second time and that’s definitely great for her fans worldwide.
In an exclusive interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, Navratilova stated: “As far as they know I’m cancer-free.” She will be able to lead a completely normal life after the remaining preventive radiation treatment on her breast over the next two weeks.
She had been diagnosed with stage one of the disease and was treated in time which has thankfully led to a considerably quick recovery.

Navratilova is known for not giving up easily both on and off the court and she has proven that once again by defeating cancer for the second time. She is a born fighter and she had earlier asserted that she is ‘ready’ for whatever is in store for her in the form of treatment. She has faced and overcome a number of struggles and barriers throughout her life and the 66-year-old has seen off cancer as if it were just another challenge.
Navratilova is considered to be one of the greatest tennis players of all-time. She has an incredible haul of 59 Grand Slams. Besides being an incredible athlete, she has been the voice of numerous other athletes and individuals across the world. She came out as ‘Lesbian’ publicly in 1991 and as a consequence received severe backlash from various sections of the society. However, she stood firm in her stance for the LGBTQ+ community and set an example for everyone within the sporting fraternity and beyond.
