The clouds of uncertainty are still looming over Novak Djokovic’s participation in the upcoming US Open competition.
The Serbian star has been firm on his stance on COVID-19 vaccination. He was named on the US Open entry list which was released a few weeks ago. The USTA have made it clear that being vaccinated is not a necessity for players to take part in the competition. However, they will follow the US Government’s travel guidelines which state that any foreign traveler must be fully vaccinated in order to enter the country.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced a few tweaks to the COVID guidelines. One of them was that there would be no discrimination between a vaccinated person and an unvaccinated one. However, this only implies to the people already in the country.
Djokovic and his fans hope that this rule is made applicable for foreign travelers as soon as possible. That would allow the three-time US Open champion to compete at Flushing Meadows. As things stand, the 21-time Grand Slam champion cannot captivate us with his game in the final major of the year.
