Nick Kyrgios defeated defending champion Daniil Medvedev in a convincing manner and booked his place in the quarter-finals.
The much-anticipated matchup between the defending champion Daniil Medvedev and the player who is currently on top of his game, Nick Kyrgios, was won by the Australian, and he will now compete in the quarterfinals of the US Open.
Nick Kyrgios won the match in a convincing fashion and made the world’s top-ranked player appear to be a shadow of his former self. The player who reached the final at Wimbledon prevailed in the match by winning in four sets with scores of 7-6(13-11), 3-6, 6-3, and 6-2.
Daniil Medvedev, who entered the tournament as the top seed, was eliminated in the first round rather quickly, and he will finish the year without winning any grand slam tournaments. He was extremely disappointed when Kyrgios defeated him.
Medvedev expressed regret that he wasn’t able to play better in the match. On the other hand, Nick Kyrgios was quite happy with his performance and is motivated to go further in the tournament.
Talking after the win, Kyrgios said, “I didn’t want to celebrate much. It’s only the 4th round. But it’s a great experience to beat the world #1 in the Ashe Stadium. I feel like I’m playing for a lot more than myself now. I feel a lot of support.”
He added, “I have a lot of motivation. I’ve been away from home. My team too. 4 months without seeing our families. I’m trying to make all that time worth. I’m playing for them too.”There is a lot of celebrities and important people here watching. I just wanna go on that court and show what I’m capable of”.
Nick Kyrgios would love to continue this great run of form and go all the way to win the tournament. He will face Karen Khachnov in his next match in the quarter-finals of the US Open.
