The Former World No.1’s coach is hopeful that Roger Federer returns to action in Wimbledon next year
Roger Federer‘s coach Ivan Ljubicic has insisted that the 40-year-old can still regain full fitness in time and return to action at Wimbledon next year.
It was after Wimbledon last year that former World No.1 has not taken the court and has struggled with injuries since then. He was knocked out in the quarterfinal last year at the All England Championships.
The tennis legend for a long time is looking to add No.21 Grand Slam to his name but it has been a distant dream for him for quite a while now. In the last few years, he has seen Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic equalling his record of 20 Grand Slam trophies.
But, Federer fans can be hopeful of seeing their favourite star in action at Wimbledon next year. His coach Ivan told Rete Uno Sport:
“I can assure you that you must not doubt Roger Federer’s sincerity and transparency.”
His comments come after the former World No.1 has cast doubt on his participation at Wimbledon next year. The legend has previously stated that it will be very tough for him to get fit in time for next year’s Wimbledon, however, Ljubicic didn’t completely rule Federer out of the Big W.
“There is little hope of seeing him at Wimbledon, but it’s too early to say too much.”
The coach added that people would get a better idea of Federer’s condition in May.
Federer has already broken the hearts of his fans after ruling himself out of the Australian Open. Earlier this month he also told his fans that he might have to call it a day from the sidelines and is praying that he hangs his boots on the court.
Federer had a long spell on the sidelines after having two knee surgeries. The 20-time Grand Slam champion then returned in March last year and played five events before revealing he will require another knee surgery that will leave him out for many months.
After losing in the last-8, the Swiss star opted out of the Tokyo Olympics due to knee injury and missed out on the US Open as well. His last major title came in the 2018 Australian Open.
