John Isner had recently called a few Covid-19 concerned Twitter users as “coronabros”

American tennis star John Isner received flake for his insensitive “coronabros” comment on Twitter.

The former World No.8 was at the receiving end of immense criticism following his comments on restarting tennis in the US.

“Wow! “Coronabros?” How insensitive to those who have lost loved ones to this virus,” a Twitter user named “Jess Lakei” replied to Isner’s post.

2018 Wimbledon semi-finalist Isner had earlier on Wednesday expressed his excitement on the restarting of tennis in US via an exhibition event named Truist Atlanta Open this coming weekend.

Isner wrote, “Amen. Can’t wait for the @ATLOpenTennis All American Cup this weekend in Atlanta. Tennis channel with coverage all weekend”, on how he felt about tennis resuming once again in the coronavirus hit US.

However, many Twitter users criticised this because fans are being allowed to watch the event.

Isner responded to one such comment and ended up responding to many more. “You coronabros can stay in your basement all you want. I choose to live my life and play/promote the sport I love in a safe manner,” Isner wrote in reply.

The American’s insensitive reply did not go down well with the public as other social media users thronged in numbers to voice their dissatisfaction with Isner’s comments.

Isner backs his earlier statement

Even though Isner created quite a stir on Twitter, he seemed stubborn and stood by his earlier statement backing the restart of tennis in the country. He even went on lengths to reply to a majority of users.

“I am in no way making light of that fact. It’s tragic. I also believe we can continue on with lives in a safe manner without another full lockdown”, he replied to the Twitter user “Jess Lakei”, who had mentioned his ‘”coronavirus” comment as insensitive.

In another comment, a person wrote about controlling the spread of the virus and called Isner as selfish. This too could not stop the American star as he replied back that it was not a laughing matter and people need the accept the fact and live with the virus.

The tennis world was shocked recently after the Adria Tour. Several stars, including Novak Djokovic, tested positive for the coronavirus and there weren’t any safety measures taken during the tournament.
