A lot has happened over the past week with the world no.1 Novak Djokovic. From claiming to have Covid-19 vaccine exemption and also being allowed to participate in the Australian Open to being stopped by the Australian border security and facing deportation at one point, the Serbian has gone through it all.
Upon arriving in Australia his visa was cancelled and Djokovic was also facing deportation. However, Djokovic ended up winning the legal battle against the Australian government as the federal court moved in the Serbian’s favour. Nole later had his visa re-invoked and is now allowed to stay in Australia.
Is Novak Djokovic allowed to play in the Australian Open now?
After having the decision of his visa cancellation overturned, Djokovic took to Twitter to make it clear that he intended on playing at the Australian Open. He said:
“I鈥檓 pleased and grateful that the Judge overturned my visa cancellation. Despite all that has happened,I want to stay and try to compete @AustralianOpen. I remain focused on that. I flew here to play at one of the most important events we have in front of the amazing fans”
Even though the Serbian is keen to play at the tournament and he is legally allowed to stay in Australia now, it remains to be seen whether he can play at the tournament or not.
If Djokovic is allowed to play, he can look forward to winning his 21st Grand Slam and overtaking Rafael Nadal and also Roger Federer. It will be interesting to see what happens in the Djokovic saga next.
