Lewis Hamilton returns to social media after two months
Serena Williams was one of the first to react to seven-time F1 Drivers’ Championship winner Lewis Hamilton’s return to social media after a near-two-month-long absence.
Hamilton’s last social media post came back in December towards the conclusion of the 2021 Formula One World Championship.
He posted a photograph of himself in the Grand Canyon, acknowledging his long absence from social media.
“I’ve been gone. Now I’m back!” Hamilton wrote on his Instagram post.
Serena Williams, who is a fan and an admirer of Hamilton, was quick to react to Hamilton’s post. The 23-time Grand Slam champion hit the comments section of the now-famous post, writing, “I love you brother. So much.”
The Brit has made very few public appearances since losing the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He was also silent on social media in the aftermath of the controversial race.
Serena Williams slips further in the world rankings
The American legend’s absence from the tour has taken a toll on her ranking as she dropped out of the top 200 at the conclusion of the 2022 Australian Open. Serena Williams last played a competitive match at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships
This fall in rankings could affect Williams’s inclusion in major tournaments, but a Twitter user pointed out that she would likely always be invited to compete at Grand Slams as a wildcard.
Williams won the last of her 23 Grand Slams at the Australian Open in 2017. Rumours related to her retirement have swirled for some time now, but Williams is yet to reveal when she will step away from the court. For now, the younger of the Williams’ sister is desperate to clinch a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam.
