Rising star Linda Fruhvirtova might have picked up her biggest win at the MUSC Health Women’s Open
Tennis always has a ton of rising stars looking to make it big. One such star is Linda Fruhvirtova, the 15-year-old was in action against Alize Cornet at the MUSC Health Women’s Open, and produced quite a result.
Fruhvirtova, who is a Czech youngster, is currently having her highest ranking of 499. She is yet to win a title on the ATP tour and has earned a prize money of close to $31,000 in her short career so far.
Linda also has a sister on the tennis circuit, Brenda, and Linda received her first taste of the WTA when she earned wildcard entries into the Prague Open in 2020.
She hasn’t made an appearance in the Grand Slams yet but has featured in the junior competitions for each of them.
Fruhvirtova has two ITF career titles in her career but even the Junior Grand Slam titles have been missing for her.
However, the 15-year-old, who isn’t the tallest, picked up the biggest win of her career.
Linda Fruhvirtova gets her first win on the WTA circuit
Cornet is a top talent and many would have expected the French star to get an easy win. However, the 15-year-old Czech player shocked Cornet in the first set and won that 6-2.
Cornet came storming back in the second set but still needed a tie-break to get the set 7-6 (9-7). However, things didn’t go as planned for the more experienced Cornet as she picked up an injury in the final set.
The score was 4-4 but Cornet was unable to continue. This was the first win for Fruhvirtova on the WTA circuit and suffice to say, the youngster was pleased.
However, she seems to have a wise head on the shoulders and provided an answer that a veteran would provide:
“It was one of the most spectacular matches I’ve played. The way we both fought for every point, it was amazing.
“Alizé is one of the biggest fighters on tour. She doesn’t give a point for free.”
Fruhvirtova’s next match is against Emma Navarro in the round of 16 and it will be interesting to see if she continues getting wins.
