Roger Federer holds several tennis records but one stands out for Mardy Fish
There is no doubting the fact that Roger Federer will go down as one of the greatest tennis players ever if not the greatest.
The Swiss holds 20 Grand Slam titles to his name, though Rafael Nadal is also tied with him. Novak Djokovic is also in the race to usurp the pair but the Swiss star holds a special place for many tennis fans.
Federer’s graceful movement and shot execution have helped him over the years, and even at 39, he is still a threat on the grandest stage.
Federer’s last Grand Slam came in 2018 and he has been close to winning another one in 2019. The Swiss ace might not be the best version of himself, but that is expected given his age.
Nevertheless, Federer holds several tennis records in his career and Mardy Fish was quick to bring one up. The American was asked which was the most unbelievable sports stat he knew and shared a couple about Federer.
“Federer 33 straight Q/Finals
“Federer 23 straight S/Finals in Grand Slams”
Federer achieved the 23 consecutive Grand Slam semis between the 2004 Wimbledon and 2010 Australian Open.
Out of these 23 Grand Slams, he won 14 and reached the final in another six. In fact, Federer was in the final of each Grand Slam in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
All good streaks must come to an end
Federer might be one of the greatest ever but even he has had a bit of a dip in recent years. His 33 straight quarter-final streak was broken in 2013 as he exited Wimbledon in the second round.
The Swiss ace went four years without winning a Slam before he got his hands on the 2017 Australian Open.
Federer has also been plagued by injuries over the past few years. He did not play in the 2021 Australian Open and there is no surety of him participating in Roland Garros.
Wimbledon and the Olympics could be part of his schedule when he returns, and hopefully, the Swiss ace is at his best for the remainder of the tennis schedule.
