Russian sensation Maria Sharapova picked the occasion of her 35th birthday to announce her pregnancy. Maria and her fiance Alexander Gilkes are expecting their first child.
The retired tennis star shared a photo on her Instagram account flaunting her baby bump in a beachside click. Sharapova wrote in the caption of the picture:
“Precious beginnings!!! Eating birthday cake for two has always been my specialty.”

Maria Sharapova revealed in December 2021 that she was engaged to British businessman Alexander Gilkes.
Gilkes is the co-founder of Squared Circles, launched in 20120. He is 42 years old and completed his education at the University of Bristol. He had been named one of Fast Company’s Most Creative Entrepreneurs in 2017. Gilkes also appeared on Vanity Fair and GQ’s best-dressed lists.
As for Sharapova, she became the world no. 1 for the first time at the age of 18 and went on to win two French Open titles, and one each at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. She is one of ten women and the only Russian to achieve the career Grand Slam.
After Maria announced the good news on her Instagram handle to her 4.2 million followers, congratulatory messages poured in for the couple.
