Former tennis player Martina Navratilova is known for voicing her opinions on social media regarding controversial issues.
The Washington Post reported that after Elon Musk closed the $44 billion deal on Twitter, various trolling accounts started testing the limits of the social media platform’s moderation policies. Musk has mentioned how he is a “free speech absolutist” in the past.
The Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI), a research group that analyzes social media content to predict emerging threats, claimed that the use of the N-word on Twitter went up by nearly 500% in the 12 hours immediately following Musk’s Twitter takeover.
Alex Goldenberg, NCRI’s lead intelligence analyst, told The Washington Post that “online trolls regularly test the limits of moderation.” He added that the online trolls may be intending “to make as big a mess as possible for Twitter’s new management.”
Musk put out a tweet on Friday where he ensured that a content moderation council will be formed for Twitter and it will have widely diverse viewpoints. He ended the tweet by mentioning that no major decisions on moderation will not be made until the council meets.
Martina Navratilova shared news regarding the matter and wrote:
“Ha! What a surprise… NOT!”
Well, it seems like the 18-time Grand Slam champion in singles is not a fan of Elon Musk.
Martina Navratilova retweets a tweet from LeBron James on the same news about Elon Musk
LeBron James is one of the biggest names in basketball history. He also gave his opinion on the news regarding the increase in the N-word following Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover.
A concerned James wrote:
“I dont know Elon Musk and, tbh, I could care less who owns twitter. But I will say that if this is true, I hope he and his people take this very seriously because this is scary AF. So many damn unfit people saying hate speech is free speech.”
Navratilova retweeted this tweet from LeBron James. We will have to wait and see how things pan out once the content moderation council meets.
