Former World No.1 Roger Federer is currently in recovery mode
Seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander has insisted that it will be very tough for ageing Roger Federer to win his 21st Slam whenever he returns to action after recovering from his injury.
Federer, who turned 40 earlier this month, has already said that he won’t be taking part in next year’s Australian Open as his injury will take time to heal. He also cast doubt in his involvement at next year’s Wimbledon.
Former World No.1 is currently in recovery mode and is healing on the sidelines.
Wilander talking to Eurosport told:
“He realises that he does still have a chance to win — maybe not a Grand Slam, maybe not a final — but three or four matches. I think it’s worth it for him to come back in his own mind.
“I don’t think he will know until he steps on court for at least a two- or three-set match against the likes of Zverev and Medvedev.”
The legend has still not given up on returning to action and he wants to give it a go and taste the success on fast courts. Last week he said that whenever he sees current stars play on these fast courts – he feels like he should give it a go and see what kind of fun it gives
Federer, who is currently ranked 16 has also said that he wants to retire on his own terms and will be delighted he does that on-court. After retirement, he has plans to spend the majority of his time with his family and close friends.
