Maxime Cressy delivered a service that is impossible to master for the common man
Maxime Cressy who gas a career-high singles ranking of 59 in the world faced Christopher Eubanks on Stadium 4 at the Indian Wells Open.
The 24-year-old Cressy has hit 475 aces in his career. 235 out of them have come in 2022 and we haven’t even completed 3 months in the year. There was one particular ace however which he won’t be able to repeat in a long time.
Usually, aces occur when the server mixes accuracy and speed in the service in the right amounts. This time, however, the speed of the service was only a paltry 26 miles per hour.
Cressy threw the ball up in the air and went for his service but he didn’t time it to perfection. He connected with the ball a fraction earlier than he would have aimed for. The ball hit the top part of the racket and lobbed up over the net and kept dipping and swerving away from a haplessly running in Eubanks.
The moment had everyone in splits and the commentators stated they had never seen anything like it before. Cressy had a sheepish smile on his face as he had no idea how that service got him a point. He apologized to Eubanks and the game carried on.
Christopher Eubanks beats Maxime Cressy advances to the next round
That ace moment might have been funny but the match was very intense. Spectators enjoyed a thrilling match.
Cressy might have been the favorite going into the match and he won the first set as well but Eubanks recovered and restored parity in a never-ending second set. The third set was won by Eubanks with relative ease.
The match ended 5-7, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 in favor of Eubanks. Cressy won 73 service points while Eubanks won 77 while both won an equal number of service games (16).
Eubanks saved 3 match points in the second set. This marked his second ATP 1000 main draw victory. He will take on eight-seeded Norwegian Casper Ruud in the Round of 64.
