Daniil Medvedev has tested positive for COVID-19 and has withdrawn from the ongoing Rolex Monte-Carlo masters.
Australian Open runner-up and world no.2 Daniil Medvedev who was expected to feature in round 2 of the ongoing Rolex Monte-Carlo masters (first-round bye), has withdrawn from the tournament since he tested positive for COVID-19.
The Coronavirus pandemic has spared no one since its inception. And, likewise it has hit the sporting world badly, as well. With no audience in attendance, and a lot of ‘coronavirus regulations’ and guidelines, sportspersons have slowly began adjusting to the new routine.
In a statement released by ATP, it can be noted that the 25-year old Russian tested positive for the virus on the 12th of April. The statement added that the Russian would be moving into isolation while being monitored by the Tournament Physician and ATP Medical Team.
The statement also mentioned that Medvedev has been replaced in the singles second round and has been withdrawn from the doubles event.
A distraught Medvedev had a few words to say about this. He said :
“It is a big disappointment not to play in Monte-Carlo. My focus is now on recovery and I look forward to getting back out on Tour as soon and safely as possible.”
Another cause for concern is the recent practice session Daniil Medvedev had with Rafael Nadal. The pair had an intense training session, just yesterday and has left fans wondering if the ‘King of Clay’ will also be sent into isolation.

Medvedev had an impressive run at the recently concluded Australian Open. Barring a stutter against Filip Krajinovic in the third round, the Russian plain-sailed all the way to the final, before being stopped by the Australian Open king, Novak Djokovic, in straight sets.
With, the French Open just a month away, Medvedev will be looking forward to recovering as quickly as possible, so that he can continue the quest for his first grand slam title. He has had a disastrous record at the French Open – never has he ever gone past the first round.
