An action-packed Day 10 at the Miami Open 2022 event witnessed a number of upsets and shock exits
Carlos Alcaraz came out on top in one of the most anticipated matches of Day 10 at Miami Open 2022. The teenager defeated the third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. Herbert Hurkacz (8) didn’t face much trouble brushing aside Lloyd Harris 7-6, 6-2. However, there were upsets in the other fixtures of the men’s singles draw involving seeded stars.
Taylor Fritz, the 11th seed lost to unseeded Miomir Kecmanovic in an intense three-setter 6-3, 1-6, 4-6. Frances Tiafoe (28) lost to unseeded Argentine Francisco Cerundolo 7-6, 6-7, 2-6.
In the women’s singles draw, all eyes were on the match between Osaka and 9th seed Danielle Collins. Osaka put up a stellar performance to defeat the seeded American in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. It was a very dominant performance from the Japanese star after quite a long time. She seems to be peaking at the right time – can she go all the way and clinch the title? Meanwhile, Belinda Bencic (22) had no trouble seeing off unseeded Daria Saville 6-1, 6-2. One of the most anticipated matches on Day 10 of the women’s singles category is yet to be played. 5th seed Paula Badosa is set to take on 16th seed Jessica Pegula later tonight to decide another semi-final berth.
Kyrgios and Kokkinakis continue their drastic rise in the men’s doubles category. The Australian Open Champions sealed a convincing victory against the third seeds Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers 7-5, 6-2.
Earlier in the day, the Italian pairing of Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolleli defeated Argentine duo of Delbonis and Gonzalez in a cliff-hanger 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. In the women’s doubles category, 4th seeds Coco Gauff and Caty McNally will be in action later in the day fighting for a semi-final berth against the pairing of Teichmann and Cornet.
