Miami Open draw 2022 – Schedule, Dates, Prize Money, Past Winners, Where to watch

The Miami Open is a Masters 1000 category tennis tournament and will be held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida

The Miami Open is the second event (first being Indian Wells) of the ‘Sunshine Double’ – a series of two consecutive hard court tournaments in the United States at the beginning of the season.

Miami Open 2022 Schedule

The main draw of the 2022 edition of Miami Open is set to be played from 22nd March to 3rd April. The qualifying matches are already underway from 21st March. The Miami Open involves 96 men and 96 women competing in the singles competition while 32 teams compete in each of the Doubles’ competitions with the event lasting 12 days.

The order of play for Tuesday is now out. It will involve matches both from the qualifying phase as well as the main draw. All top 32 seeds in the men’s and women’s singles competitions have received a bye in the first round.

Who are the Top seeds at the Miami Open 2022?

Daniil Medvedev, the World No. 2 is the top seed in the men’s singles draw. The Russian has received a ‘Bye’ in the first round and is scheduled to face the winner of Andy Murray versus Federico Delbonis match. Alexander Zverev is the 2nd seed followed by the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas. The defending Champion Hubert Hurkacz is seeded 8th in the draw.

In the WTA Women’s singles main draw, Aryna Sabalenka is the top seed followed by Polish star Iga Swiatek who is the second seed. Defending champion, Ashleigh Barty is missing the tournament due to an injury and hence wasn’t a part of the draw. The draw could potentially see Naomi Osaka take on 13th seed Angelique Kerber in the next round if Osaka gets past Astra Sharma.

The defending champions from Croatia, Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic are the top seed in the men’s doubles draw and are scheduled to face the pair of Basilashvili & Djere in the first round. Veteran doubles player Rajeev Ram and British partner Joe Salisbury are seeded second in the draw.

Prize Money break-down at Miami Open 2022

The prize money breakdown is the same as all Masters 1000 tournaments on the ATP and WTA circuit. Men’s and women’s singles competition layers in qualifying round 1 and round 2 will get US$ 1,825 and US$ 3,565 respectively. That’s the minimum slab in the tournament for the singles category. The prize money break down for the main draw of Men’s and Women’s Singles is as follows:

Round of 32 – US$ 36,170

Round of 16 – US$ 67,590

The Miami Open has an illustrious host of past winners. In the Men’s singles competition, Novak Djokovic and Andre Agassi are the joint-most successful players, having won the title six times each. Roger Federer has won it four times while Pete Sampras has won the title three times.

Serena Williams is by far the most successful player in the women’s singles category. The American has won the title eight times ahead of Steffi Graf who won it five times. Serena’s sister Venus Williams has won the title thrice as has Victoria Azarenka. The current World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty is a two-time champion of the Miami Open, winning both of the last two editions.

The legendary American brothers Mike and Bob Bryan have dominated the men’s doubles category winning the title six times while Martina Hingis has won the women’s doubles title four times, with different partners.
