Carlos Alcaraz will take on 8th seed Hubert Hurkacz in the men’s singles semi-final of Miami Open 2022
Hubert Hurkacz caused the upset of the tournament by defeating top seed and World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev in straight sets 7-6, 6-3. Hurkacz has been very impressive throughout the tournament. The Polish star is seeded eighth in this ATP 1000 event and has certainly exceeded expectations. Hurkacz defeated Arthur Rinderknech in the first round 7-6, 6-2 and followed it up with a hard-fought win in three sets against 29th seed Aslan Karatsev. He beat Lloyd Harris in the next round to set up a clash against Medvedev which he has now gone one to win in a convincing fashion.
Meanwhile, 18-year old Carlos Alcaraz has been in sublime form this year and hasn’t dropped a single set so far in this ATP-1000 event. Alcaraz defeated Marton Fucsovics 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round followed by a comprehensive 6-4, 6-4 victory against Marin Cilic in the Round of 32. The Spaniard then came out on top in one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament, defeating the third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to set up the semi-final clash against Hubert Hurkacz.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Hubert Hurkacz – Predictions and Head to Head
Carlos Alcaraz and Hubert Hurkacz have never faced each other in the ATP circuit previously. This will be the first meeting between the two youngsters.
On paper, Hubert Hurkacz (8) is the higher seed compared to Carlos Alcaraz (14) and will be the favourite going into this match. However, based on the current form and the quality on display from Alcaraz in the recent past, we predict a hard-fought win in three sets for the Spaniard.
The winner of the Alcaraz vs Hurkacz match will be playing the final against either Casper Ruud or Francisco Cerundolo. The clash between Ruud and Cerundolo is scheduled to take place tonight, before the other semi-final.
Sixth seed Casper Ruud defeated 2nd seed Alexander Zverev in the quarter-final to qualify for the semis while unseeded Francisco Cerundolo received a walkover midway through his quarter-final encounter against 9th seed Jannik Sinner to set up a semi-final clash against Ruud.
