The Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu’s Wimbledon run ended in the second round when she went down in straight sets to the 11th seed Coco Gauff in the second round.
Before Buzarnescu’s first-round match against Nastasja Mariana Schunk, the 34-year-old was instructed to change her bra. This was because her bra was not compliant with the rules of the Grand Slam. Wimbledon is very strict regarding the attires that players sport during their matches. The supervisors spotted Buzarnescu’s bra when the former world No. 20 was warming up and they deemed it illegal.
Buzarnescu was informed that a change was needed before she could begin her match against Schunk. The issue was resolved when Buzarnescu borrowed a bra from her coach.
Buzarnescu explained the incident for Eurosport as she said: “My bustier was too black and could be seen up here (e.d. pointing to the bust area) and I had to change it. The white one I had was too transparent and you could see everything underneath and I couldn’t wear it, so I borrowed from my coach, I took her bustier. That’s good, we did it,” said Buzarnescu.”
