Monte Carlo Masters Final 2022: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Alejandro Davidovic Fokina – Preview, Predictions and Head to head stats

Published by

The 3rd seed Stefanos Tsitsipas is set to face Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the men’s singles of Monte Carlo Masters Final 2022

Stefanos Tsitsipas has been in sublime touch at the Monte Carlo Masters. The Greeks would look to carry this momentum forward and win the much-coveted title. Tsitsipas followed up his straight-set victory against Fabio Fognini in the first round. And another comfortable win against Laslo Dere in the next round. He then went on to win against Diego Schwartzman in three sets. Before brushing aside second seed Alexander Zverev was 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-finals.

The Greek is seeded no.3 in the tournament and is living up to the expectations. Althoug, Tsitsipas is the much higher-ranked player, he will certainly be wary of the potential threat of the unpredictable Davidovich Fokina in the final.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has been the surprise package of this tournament. The Spaniard pulled off a stunning victory against the top seed Novak Djokovic in his second-round match. He followed it up with a straight-set victory over David Goffin. The 22-year-old continued his incredible run by beating the 10th seed and reigning Indian Wells Champion, Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals. He then secured a victory against Grigor Dimitrov in the semis to set up a final clash against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Can Davidovich Fokina pull off another major upset in the final against Tsitsipas?

Tsitsipas and Davidovich Fokina have met each other twice before on the ATP Tour. Earlier this year, the players faced each other on the hard courts of Rotterdam which saw Tsitsipas eventually winning an intense three-set battle.

In 2021, both players took on each other in the quarter-finals of the same tournament (Monte Carlo Masters) however, the match couldn’t be completed due to an injury to the Spaniard midway through the encounter. As a result, Tsitsipas progressed to the next round and leads 2-0 on head to head.

On paper, Tsitsipas is the outright favourite going into the match both in terms of rankings and head to head records. However, we can definitely expect a very close despite what the past records might indicate. We are predicting a hard-fought win in three sets for Stefanos Tsitsipas.
