Novak Djokovic lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a thrilling five-setter in the final of Wimbledon 2023 – he also became the man who lost the most Grand Slam finals

Novak Djokovic has several incredible records to his name but the latest one is something that he would have really wished to avoid.

After his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the final of Wimbledon 2023, he had become the player with the most Grand Slam final losses in the Open Era. Djokovic has now lost 12 Grand Slam finals, one ahead of Ivan Lendl and Roger Federer (11). Rafael Nadal with eight Grand Slam losses constitutes the top 3 of this list.

Djokovic’s first loss in a Grand Slam final came at the 2007 French Open final. Since then, he has gone on to lose eleven more finals besides winning a record 24 Grand Slam finals. However, he has also experienced a number of losses in Grand Slam finals, falling short on 11 occasions. Hence, he jointly holds the second spot in this list alongside Ivan Lendl.

Rafael Nadal (8): Nadal is widely regarded as one of the greatest clay-court players in history and one of the most accomplished tennis players overall. Over the course of his career, Nadal has reached a total of 28 Grand Slam finals and has won 20 titles. However, he has also faced defeat in eight Grand Slam finals – most recent of which came at the 2019 Australian Open.

Andy Murray (8): Murray has reached 11 Grand Slam finals, winning three of them. However, he has also faced defeat in eight Grand Slam final matches. Despite these losses, Murray’s career has been marked by remarkable achievements. He is a beloved figure in the world of tennis, and his contributions to the sport have solidified his place among the greats of his era.
