Haiti has been hit by several earthquakes in the past and things still had not returned to normal after the 2010 earthquake.

However, the latest earthquake was 7.2 in magnitude and was 12 kilometres from Saint-Louis-Du-Sud. CNN reports that close to 1,800 people were injured while 304 had lost their lives. The report added that the earthquake hit on the morning of 14 August and widespread destruction had taken place.

Osaka is to play the Cincinnati Masters (named the 2021 Western and Southern Open) and she promised to donate her entire winnings from the competition:

“Really hurts to see all the devastation that’s going on in Haiti, and I feel like we really can’t catch a break. I’m about to play a tournament this week and I’ll give all the prize money to relief efforts for Haiti. I know our ancestors blood is strong we’ll keep rising”
