Naomi Osaka rose to the heights of greatness at a very young age but has undergone a freefall and struggled to get back on top in recent times.
The Japanese star won the last of her four Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open in 2021. Since then, the road has been uphill and she has faced difficulties on and off the court. Naomi Osaka was forced to take a couple of breaks from tennis to focus on her issues with mental health.
Osaka has dropped considerably in the rankings. She reached the No. 1 spot in the WTA rankings on January 28, 2019, but currently, she is ranked No. 42. Her best result in 2022 came at the Miami Open, where she made it to the finals. She was eventually beaten by Iga Swiatek.
Osaka has been criticized by many while her fans have always stood by her side. In a recent post on Twitter, Osaka shared her feelings about why her growth has been stunted. She blamed quarantine as the reason behind the lack of progress.
“I think quarantine stunted my growth.”
COVID-19, quarantine, self-isolation, and lockdown are some terms we dread in the last couple of years. It has certainly halted the progress of many but a fighter like Osaka has all the tools to climb back to where she belongs.
Naomi Osaka’s fans on Twitter showed their support for the former world No. 1. The 25-year-old will be hoping to turn things around when the season begins next year.
