Naomi Osaka got creative with her camera signature after she comfortably beat Serena Williams to make the Australian Open final
Japanese tennis sensation Naomi Osaka simply cannot be stopped. She is on a 20-match winning streak right now and into another major tournament final.
Osaka bested her childhood idol Serena Williams in the semi-finals 6-3, 6-4 to book her berth in her second-ever Australian Open final. She will take on Jennifer Brady of the USA in the final.
As is the tradition for players in the tournament after winning knockout matches, Osaka signed the camera. However, her camera signatures are a little… let’s say… unconventional.
But in a good way, of course. She beat Hsieh Su-wei in the quarter-finals earlier this week and signed her name, followed by a drawing of a cat underneath it.
That was a nice little touch and she bettered it again after her win against the American. She added a personal message for her older sister, Mari Osaka.
The #3 seed wrote on the camera, “Mari stop sending werid images in the groupchat!”, followed by her signature underneath it.
Yes she misspelled weird, but we will let it pass because in all fairness, your attention would be on other things when you’ve just beaten the greatest female tennis player of all time.
Grand Slam heartbreak continues for Serena Williams after second loss to Naomi Osaka
As for Serena Williams, her 24th grand slam title continues to evade her. And Osaka, on multiple occasions, has bettered her.
The two met in the 2018 US Open final when the Japanese beat Williams to land her first grand slam title.
She hasn’t even lost a set against the #10 seed. Williams is also not getting any younger. Osaka is 16 years younger than her idol, who turns 40 this year.
It remains to be seen if she can land the record-equalling 24th grand slam title. Her best hope, as of now, seems to be avoiding the hard-hitting Osaka and hope someone else beats her en route to the final.
