Naomi Osaka has opened up on how she felt receiving support from Andy Murray over Twitter

Andy Murray complemented Naomi Osaka during her 1st round matchup against Madison Brengle. Osaka defeated Brengle in a scintillating fashion in two straight sets 6-0 and 6-4 to proceed to the next round. Murray was quick to hop on Twitter and praise Osaka for her ability to hit the ball from the baseline.

Murray tweeted:

“Anyone hit the ball cleaner from the baseline than @naomiosaka?”

After seeing such praise from Murray, the women’s tennis star wasted no time to reply and trade a compliment in return. Osaka complemented Murray for always putting his heart on his sleeve and said:

“Anyone put their heart on their sleeve and fight harder than @andy_murray ?”

In a post-game press conference, Osaka asserted that it was shocking to have Andy Murray tweet about her. While appreciating what Murray had to say about her, she mentioned how it was nice to see someone of his stature tweet about her.

Naomi Osaka said (h/t ATP):

“It’s a little bit shocking, because when you’re playing, you never really think about [how] the TV is broadcasting it and other people are watching. Definitely really surreal. I hit with him once like three years ago, and it was a memory that’s really dear to me. It was really cool just to have someone like him talking about my game.”

Osaka is certainly excited to have received praise from Murray. She will look to carry forward this momentum further in the tournament.

She is set to face Amanda Anisimova of the United States in the third round.
