Nick Kyrgios has always shown flashes of brilliance. However, it seems that the rub of the green has finally gone his way as the Australian tennis star is churning out some impeccable performances on a consistent basis as of late.
He progressed to the semi-final of a Grand Slam event for the first time at this year’s Wimbledon Championships. He was set to face Rafael Nadal but the Spaniard had to pull out ahead of the semi-final owing to an abdominal injury. Kyrgios progressed to the final to take on the mighty Novak Djokovic. Kyrgios had a blistering start to the final as he won the first set. However, the Serbian legend played like a man possessed to win the next three sets and bag his 7th title at the All England Club.
Kyrgios took heart from that campaign and went on to win the men’s doubles event at the Atlanta Open alongside compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis. He followed it up with wins in both the singles and men’s doubles events at the Citi Open.
After winning his second-round match against Tommy Paul at the Citi Open in Washington, the 27-year-old spoke about how his relationship with girlfriend Costeen Hatzi has been a key to his recent impressive outings on the tennis court.
I think being just at peace with your life definitely helps,” Kyrgios said. “I think everything around me right now is amazing. You know, I’m fortunate enough to be in a really healthy relationship that’s loving, she supports me, and we just have fun.”
Well, Kyrgios’ on-field antics have not taken a back seat. However, it seems that recently, he is coming out to play his matches with a clear head and being able to execute his plans a lot better.
Nick Kyrgios will be seen in action at the Canadian Open. He will be looking forward to riding his rich vein of form at the competition and doing some last-minute fine-tuning ahead of the upcoming US Open Grand Slam.
Nick Kyrgios will start his Canadian Open against Sebastian Baez. The 2022 Estoril Open champion will have to bring his A-game to get one over an in-form Kyrgios.
World No. 37 Nick Kyrgios has faced the Argentine in one previous instance. It came at the 2022 Indian Wells Masters and the Aussie won the match in straight sets. Kyrgios will be the favorite going into the match. Another loss in straight sets could be on the cards for the 21-year-old.
