The Australian tennis pro might have his share of critics due to his controversial antics on and off the field but there’s no doubt that his game has improved considerably over the years and he has the skills required to succeed against the best. The loss in the Wimbledon final was his first against Novak Djokovic. He got the better of the legendary Serbian on two previous occasions.

Kyrgios returned to action at the Atlanta Open where he teamed with compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis to win the men’s doubles competition. The duo dropped just one set in the tournament. Now, Kyrgios is playing in the Citi Open. He defeated Marcos Giron in the Round of 64 and will now take on Tommy Paul in the next round.

In the men’s doubles event, he and Kokkinakis won their Round of 16 math against Jean-Julien Rojer and Marcelo Arevalo to make it to the quarter-final stage.

He announced on Tuesday that he won’t be taking part in the upcoming Laver Cup competition. The 27-year-old said that he wanted to spend more time with his family and girlfriend Costeen Hatzi. Therefore, he made the decision.

“No Laver Cup for me this year!!! Just letting you all know,” Kyrgios wrote on Instagram.
