Australian star Nick Kyrgios has been in the headlines for his controversial antics but he has been able to walk the talk in this year’s Wimbledon tournament.
Nick Kyrgios tends to get into arguments with the officials during his matches. He had a heated third-round match against Stefanos Tsitsipas and there was no love lost between the two. Kyrgios’ on-field behavior has been questionable throughout his career. It has not changed at Wimbledon this year. Something that has changed though is the 27-year-old’s best record at a Grand Slam event. That happened when Kyrgios managed to dominate Cristian Garin and come out victorious in the quarter-finals.
Kyrgios had never reached the semi-final stage of a Grand Slam ever before. His best runs came at the 2014 Wimbledon and 2015 Australian Open where he managed to progress to the quarter-final stage.
The world No. 40 was interviewed on court after the quarter-final triumph. He revealed that he felt his ship had sailed. He felt he would never reach a Grand Slam semi-final, but he was proud of his performance thus far.
“An amazing atmosphere out here again. Just never thought I’d be at a semi-final of a Grand Slam. Honestly, I thought my ship had sailed. Obviously, I didn’t go about things great earlier in my career and may have wasted that little window but you know just really proud of the way that I’ve just come back out here and with my team just to be able to put on a performance.”
