19year-old Emma Raducanu has a new fan in the form of fellow tennis star Nick Kyrgios. Raducanu kicked off her debut Australian Open campaign with a win over Sloane Stephens. The teen sensation has been receiving support from everywhere ever since her famous US Open title victory.
Now, ahead of her second-round matchup with Danka Kovinic, Kyrgios has extended his support for Raducanu. The Australian replied to a post of her press conference at the tournament over Twitter and said:
“She is the champ!!!!”
Emma Raducanu was struggling to find form before Australian Open 2022
Since winning the US Open 2021 back in September, Raducanu wasn’t on the best run of forms. Heading into the tournament, the Brit failed to win more than two matches. However, she will be thanking her lucky stars to have got an amazing start to the tournament.
After winning the first-round matchup, Raducanu reflected on her performance on the court. She looked seemingly pleased to have got the job done and said:
“I was very pleased, I mean coming out of the first set I thought I played some very good tennis with very little unforced errors and then, of course, there was going to be some adversity and the long rally, she was just edging through her defense. So, I am happy to have regrouped.”
Raducanu will certainly look to build upon her first win in the tournament. It will be interesting to see how far she goes in the Australian Open 2022.
